EL.Y.KAT. OE has significant experience and specialization in the domain of structural assessment studies of existing buildings. Such studies are accomplished in the following cases:
- structures that have suffered earthquake, fire or sedimentations and have displayed damages.
- cases of structures where storey adding or conjunctive house expansion take place.
- cases of existing structures which are entitled with planning permission.
- arbitrary structures which are regulated by the N4178/2013 and require static sufficiency studies.
In assessment studies, methods of elastic analysis (dynamic spectral method) as well as methods of inelastic analysis (pushover) are applied, in order to assess the structural integrity of the existing building.
EL.Y.KAT. OE undertakes retrofit studies for existing buildings for which the proportional need has shown after the completion of the assessment study.
It is noted that prior to any study or intervention, special structural inspection for seismic evaluation of the existing structure is required so as the data on which the assessment or redesign will be based becomes highly reliable. This involves detailed schematic of the structure and of its situation, syntax of the history of construction and its maintenance, registration of any injuries or damage and realization of in-situ exploratory measurements. Exploratory work aims at gathering information that may be useful for assessing the structural integrity. Different parts of investigation, according to the type of the test item are distinguished:
- Mapping of unobservable inputs.
- Characteristics of materials and construction method.
- Foundations' soil.
- Other factors.
Moreover, EL.Y.KAT. OE undertakes structural design of new reinforced concrete structures, of buildings constructed with structural steel, of composite construction (combination of the two above), as well as the structural design of masonry or wood constructions.
